External support and challenge for the Headteacher Appraisal processes is widely recommended and mandatory in maintained schools.

Effective External Advisors have respectful and trusting relationships with the governing body and respectful, yet independent relationships with the headteacher. 

​

As an External Advisor I can add value by supporting with data analysis, open and constructive conversations, supporting documentation, school tours and the development of relationships between governors and school leaders. This is framed by being truly independent and objective. 

​

I am a governor in a maintained school as well as in a Trust. This, coupled with being an ex-Headteacher, gives me a robust knowledge of effective support and challenge.
